About Us

Tropic Fish Hawaii was founded by Kiyoshi Tanoue, who began his career at Hara’s Produce Company before launching Kiyo’s Produce in a converted Army barracks in Kakaʻako. In 1966, he and his wife Katherine expanded into seafood and rebranded as Tropic Fish & Vegetable Center. After a fire destroyed their building, they rebuilt at the Ala Moana Farmers Market with strong community support.

Today, Tropic Fish Hawaii supplies fresh and frozen seafood to local and international distributors, serving markets across the U.S., including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Boston, and New York.

Led by President Shawn Tanoue, the company continues to grow while honoring its family roots. “We’re reaching a new generation while building on the values that got us here,” he says. Vice President Glenn adds, “We believe in trying new ideas, learning from mistakes, and growing as a team.”
